Mate: So you can actually compete against each other in CrossFit?
Me: Yep…Pretty cool hey!
Mate: So what exactly will you be doing?
Me: Well, I’m not really sure. But somewhere along the lines of running, jumping, throwing weights around…You know, the usual…
Mate: Umm, that’s about as clear as mud.
So what is CrossFit? This is a question I get asked often. After my competition last weekend the question I get now is…Well what’s this CrossFit competition thing you did then?
I’m still trying to answer both so I thought I’d put this post together.
If you have been following my crossfit journey, a few months back I mentioned that my coach Cassie had entered myself and Stu into our first CrossFit competition at CrossFit Feel Good in Sydney. Well that day had finally come.
It was time for myself and many fellow Bare comrades to leave the comfort of our four walls at CrossFit Bare in Bondi Junction, Sydney and venture out into our first competition. We had a blast and I haven’t had butterflies like that since the days of walking onto the rugby field back in the valleys of Wales.
A big thanks to the whole CrossFit Bare crew as it was a privilege to share the similar experiences with you all on the day!… Guy
Ps. Stu also beat me by 7 burpees (he got 105, I got 98) in the first WOD, but keep that to yourself 🙂
PPs. All photographs on the day were captured beautifully by Kris.
My 1st CrossFit competition transcription
Hey this Guy from 180 Nutrition and today I am actually doing my first CrossFit competition at CrossFit Feel Good. I’ll be up in about 5 minutes and it’s going to be a 800m run followed by as many burpees as possible, all within a 10 minute time cap. So I am really nervous and let’s see how we go from there!
Ok, I just finished my first WOD (workout of the day) which was a bit earlier. I got 98 burpees and my business partner Stu got 105 the bugger! So he’s just ahead of me. We got one more WOD to go and this is the warm up area where everyone comes in to get ready to go (including me). And the last WOD is going to be seven dead lifts, five hang cleans and three over head press. As many rounds as possible in five minutes with a 40kg bar.
I’m pretty sore so it will be interesting to see how I go. The atmosphere is electric in there and it’s been a lot of fun!
So my first competition is over and I’m absolutely buggered. I came second and I’ve actually surprised myself. All in all a fantastic day and a lot of fun, and I look forward to the next one to see if we can repeat it all over again…
Cheers, Guy
