Coconut Quinoa Porridge

healthy breakfast coconut quinoa porrige

Christine: I love to prepare breakfast in advance as our house is soooo busy in the morning. Keira Rumble has created a delicious healthy breakfast recipe that you can prep once and enjoy all week. Over to Keira…

Keira: Are you stuck for your morning breakfast? Do you want an easy recipe, that you can prep the night before (or even the Sunday night for the week?). This is the perfect little recipe for you then! A great way to kick start your morning, with this delicious Quinoa Porridge. Packed full of fibre, protein and is perfect for those who have a sweet tooth in the morning.

healthy breakfast ingredientsIngredients
(serves 4-6):

  • 2 cups of organic quinoa
  • 1 teaspoon Coconut oil
  • 1 Cinnamon quill
  • 1 scoop 180 Superfood
  • 4 cups almond milk
  • 150g shredded coconut
  • 100g flaked almonds
  • 50g Goji berries
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 punnet of fresh raspberries or frozen, washed
  • 5 strawberries, washed and sliced
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Flaxseed oil

To make the quinoa, rinse thoroughly, then place in a saucepan and add the almond milk, teaspoon of coconut oil/butter and cinnamon quill. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for 13 minutes. While this is cooking, wash your raspberries and put in a bowl, drizzle lightly with your flaxseed oil. Toast your shredded coconut and almonds in a dry pan until just golden.

Once your coconut quinoa is cooked, leave to stand for approximately 5 minutes, then lightly fluff with a fork, slowly adding the protein powder to coat the quinoa.  To assemble, serve the quinoa in a deep bowl, dash an extra amount of almond milk, place raspberries, strawberries, banana, goji berries on top. Sprinkle your coconut and almonds then dust with cinnamon.

Feed Me: Paleo Friendly Meals Delivered to Your Door

feed me real food

Angela: We were contacted by the lovely Lucy at Feed Me Real Food Co. to try out their pre-made meals with no obligation to review them (paleo friendly too). We thought why not – free lunches for the week! Jokes aside, we love everything Feed Me represent and wanted to get behind such an awesome start up business.

We honestly all loved the meals and here’s why… *Sydney based deliveries only at this time*

So as you can see, they align with everything that we shout about here at 180 Nutrition :)

Here was our menu for the week:

paleo friendly Bolognaise

Monday – Zucchini Bolognaise

(Pork and veal mince, zucchini, carrot, celery, onion, tomato, bacon, coconut cream, coconut oil, garlic, chilli powder, salt, pepper)

OMG I thought this was awesome. I always make bolognaise with beef mince. Really liked the mix of the pork and veal. Also had a bit of a kick from the chilli powder. The portion size was massive for me. Loved the zucchini noodles and they were really thin with a little bit of a crunch.

paleo friendly snacks

Paleo Coconut Bounty Bites

(Desiccated coconut, coconut cream, coconut oil, cocoa powder, rapadura sugar, salt)

These were really great really cold and hit the spot! I popped them in the freezer. They make for a tasty paleo friendly snack. Very easy though to eat them all at once!

paleo friendly chicken pesto

Tuesday – Pesto Chicken

(Chicken, brussels sprouts, pumpkin, onions, bacon, pesto (almonds, parsley, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper), coconut oil, salt, pepper, thyme)

The bacon and the pesto made this dish. I love pesto! Store-bought ones are always full of bad quality oil. Great to taste the olive oil. The portion size was good for me.

paleo friendly snacks

Paleo Cocoa-Nutty Bites

(Medjool dates, cashews, coconut, sesame seeds, cocoa powder)

Yummy and nutty and were a great little after lunch treat with a cuppa. They make for a tasty paleo friendly snack. Very easy though to eat them all at once!

paleo friendly indian lamb

Wednesday – Indian Spiced Lamb

(Lamb, sweet potato, tomato, onion, seasonal greens, coconut oil, garlic, salt, garam masala, coriander, pepper, cinnamon, chilli flakes)

The lamb had a good kick but not too much. I was the right side of full and the vegetables were nice and crisp.

paleo friendly spicy pork

Thursday – Smokey Spiced Pork

(Cauliflower, pork, zucchini or seasonal greens, onion, filtered water, coconut oil, paprika, salt, chilli powder, cumin, pepper, turmeric, cinnamon)

Another good dish. Meat was yummy and tender. Needed a bit of salt but I am a bit of a salt fiend. Cauliflower rice is always a winner in my book too!

paleo friendly beef curry

Friday – Beef Rendang

(Beef, coconut cream, carrot, red onion, garlic, ginger, red chilli, coconut oil, lime, lemongrass, cloves, turmeric, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, pepper, cauliflower)

Great dish. As with the Smokey Spiced Pork it came with cauliflower rice. Love this as an alternative to rice. Good way to get more veggies in.

Feed Me is a great alternative to home cooked clean meals if you don’t have the time yourself. I would definitely use them again. I could see myself using them when my husband is away as a no hassle option for the week. Guy and Stu are running around most of the time so I can see them ordering these for weekly lunches. They are cranky when they aren’t fed well.

Post Workout High Protein Brownie

Post Workout High Protein Brownie

By Stuart Cooke

Stu: Most of us are looking for a quick post workout snack and sometimes it’s tricky to fill the spot. Keira Rumble has kindly shared her awesome healthy brownie recipe that tastes divine and should do the trick.

Over to Keira…

Keira: These little gems are gluten free, high in protein, vegan and have no added sugar. They also keep really well in the freezer and made the perfect post workout snack/dessert, for a good two weeks. I have since done a couple variations, so stay tuned for some more brownies.

  • healthy brownie ingredients1 can drained organic cannellini beans
  • 80-100g protein powder of
    180 Natural Protein Superfood
  • 60g raw cacao powder
  • 1 large banana
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1/2 – 1 cup organic and unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • 1 ½  teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 – 1 cup frozen raspberries

Pre-heat oven to 160 degrees fan forced. Combine all dry ingredients and banana into a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, you can easily mash everything up using a potato masher or even a fork.

Blitz until smooth, slowly adding the almond milk. If it is still dry, or quite thick in consistency add in some more almond milk or water until smooth. Once all combined, pour into a lined baking tray. Sprinkle over raspberries (frozen work really well so they don’t dry out the batter, the chia seeds will also absorb a lot of moisture). Cook for 20 -30 minutes or until skewer just comes out clean.

Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.

The 180 Homemade Paleo Cookie Recipe

Homemade Paleo Cookies

By Stuart Cooke

Stu: Not many of us would turn down a homemade chocolate chip cookie, especially when you know that it’s free of all the bad stuff. Keira Rumble has kindly shared her paleo recipe that ticks all the boxes and should please even the most die-hard foodie.

Over to Keira…

Keira: After returning from a mini-holiday I immediately got a couple of requests for meals. One of them being ‘healthy choc-chip cookies’ from my little brothers. So here it is: my healthy dark choc gluten free protein cookies, did I mention that they are paleo friendly?

Like all of my recipes, I try and make them as healthy as possible. But remember – moderation is key! That didn’t stop my brothers eating 2 batches of these though.

  • homemade paleo cookies recipe1 cup 180 Natural Protein Superfood (coconut)
  • 2 cups almond meal
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • Pinch of Himalayan pink sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons date paste
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 vanilla pod seeds scraped
  • 1/4 almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon stevia
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 150g 80% dark choc or cacao nibs

Preheat your oven to 160 degrees and line a baking tray with foil or baking paper.
Combine the dry ingredients (180 protein powder, almond meal, baking soda & salt) into a large bowl.

In a separate bowl add the remaining ingredients and stir until well combined. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix well.

Shape into small balls and place on the tray, squash down slightly and then pop in oven. Cook for 13 minutes or until deliciously golden. Let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Homemade Flax Crackers & Healthy Hummus

healthy crackers
By Stuart Cooke

Stu: Crackers and hummus make an awesome snack but it’s easy to run into trouble with the supermarket range. Both of these options usually contain processed damaging seed oils and hidden preservatives so thanks again to Keira Rumble for offering a truly healthy alternative.

180 Recipes: High protein summer berry parfait

high protein recipeBy 180 Nutrition

When Caroline sent me this delicious high protein dessert recipe to my inbox, I must admit I had to look up ‘parfait’. Not a term we used often back in the valleys of Wales.

But I now know it’s French for ‘perfect’. And I can honestly vouch that this simple recipe deserves it’s ‘parfait’ title, as this high protein dessert is simply delicious!

You can also freeze this combination and take it to work in a small tupperware container for an afternoon snack. Or even have it frozen  as it’s a bit like a chocolate berry ice cream, only healthier! And if you don’t eat dairy, you can try this recipe here…Dairy free coconut mousse.  More

Say Hi To Our New Ingredients

Let’s face it – the majority of snack/sports bars available today suffer from the same problems as their powdered counterparts – low grade ingredients, artificial additives, preservatives and a list of chemicals that you need a PhD to understand.

180 Nutrition are not on a mission to add as many different ingredients as possible to our products. Good nutrition is quite simple and you know us – we believe that nature can provide all the nutrition your body needs.

This is what we added to the Original 180 Superfood Formula to build the new bars (individual bar flavours contain different ingredients):

  • Chicory Root

    Chicory Root

Chicory root is a natural source of fibre which is a prebiotic. It aids a healthy digestion and also contains anti-inflammatory properties.

  • organic cacao butter

    Organic Cacao Butter

Cocoa butter is a beautifully healthy fat that contains antioxidants which are beneficial for improving immunity and lowering inflammation.

  • Organic Cacao Nibs

    Organic Cacao Nibs

A true superfood as cacao nibs have more antioxidant activity than tea, wine, blueberries and even goji berries while tasting amazing.

  • Organic Coconut Oil

    Organic Coconut Oil

Need we say any more about coconut oil as the benefits are so plentiful and amazing from this well researched natural superfood.

  • Dates
