Rewind Eight Years Ago…

Not sure about you but I found this whole health and wellness thing very confusing. How did eating ever get so complicated?

Here I was, a fully qualified fitness trainer working in a state of the art fitness centre at the UTS (University of Technology, Sydney), and the nutritional advice I had been taught was simply not adding up. I had come to the conclusion that the infamous food pyramid sucked, and wanted to get to the bottom of it all and find out what it takes for amazing health.

Whilst on my search for the truth I stumbled across a small charity that had been helping people with chronic disease (mainly cancer). A team of health professional ‘renegades’ had decided to get together and use nutrition and exercise (mainly resistance training) as their prescribed therapy. The results I saw were staggering and it quickly highlighted how powerful food and exercise can be if prescribed correctly.

It also highlighted how appalling the food industry is with packaged foods, processed cereals/ grains recommended as our staple diet. On top of that, trying to provide a protein supplement to help with recovery after exercise was near impossible because of all the chemicals, artificial flavourings, sweeteners etc. Misinformation was endless and quality food products I could trust were sparse. Something had to change!

With the concept of a protein superfood in place, I met Stu on a surf patrol at Coogee Beach in Sydney. With an equal passion for true health and fitness and 20 years of graphic design experience, we teamed up together and 180 Nutrition was born in March 2010.

Make delicious protein shakes

We recommend mixing 180 natural protein superfood with your favourite milk to make high protein shakes, or simply shake/stir and drink! Mix with natural yoghurt etc. Or you can make protein shakes as your favourite smoothies by simply adding some low GI fruit. For instance, lets say you’re on a weight loss plan and you are eating a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. You could  add a little low GI fruit like a tablespoon of blueberries or some strawberries and substitute a meal with a delicious, all natural high protein shake in under a minute. This would also make a fantastic nutritional quick and easy breakfast.

Or if you are looking to gain lean muscle, and improve your recovery before your next workout, you would need to look at increasing your calorie, protein and carbohydrate intake. A simple way do this is by adding an extra tablespoon of 180, a banana, a raw egg, or something similar along these lines, depending on personal preferences and taste, to make convenient high protein shakes. By adding 180 to your daily diet you’ll be taking steps to improve your health and well being over time, as we know you’ll feel the difference.

What foods shouldn’t I eat?

High GI foods for a start, they include rice, bread, candy, potato, sweets, sodas, anything that has white flour or sugar in it, and most processed carbohydrates. Processing can include bleaching, baking, grinding, and refining.

Think like a Caveman. If it wasn’t around back then, the chances are, you shouldn’t be eating it now.

Will it help me lose body fat?

Yes. If you want to lose body fat and sustain/improve good health, we suggest exercising a minimum of 3 times a week and eating 4-6 small meals a day, and 1-3 of those meals should ideally be replaced with a serving of 180. If you have cereal or toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch etc, or any processed carbohydrate simply, replace these with the serving of 180.
