Weekly inspiration from a few peoples perspective on the upside to life, with a bias leaning towards health related topics. If you like the idea of a fitness trainer, naturopath and psychologist posting articles, you’ve come to the right place. Who’s running this blog?

Guy Lawrence. I’m a down to earth laid back kinda person, with just a few minor discrepancies, and I am product of Wales that now lives in the heart of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. I haven’t written a #1 New York Times bestseller yet, but i’m working on it. In the mean time, I thought I’d start a blog.

How did I end up here writing this?

Early in life I realised that the perceived suburban life and career, status symbols, keeping up with the Jones etc, was not for me. I left Wales at an early age and used travel to try and cure a restlessness that followed me wherever I went.

After many adventures, country’s and meeting awesome people who are my friends for life, I finally resigned to the fact there’s an itch inside I may never be able to scratch, so I settled in Australia in September 2005 and wound up working in the fitness industry, specialising in one on one coaching with weight loss.

With a nagging curiosity for knowledge around life and health, in 2008 I stumbled upon a group of people who were doing things a little differently when it came to one’s health. They specialized in helping people with chronic disease (mainly cancer), through strategies including nutrition and resistance training in the gym. 

After this humbling experience, I began to delve into nutrition a little more, with a growing appreciation to make the most out of life. So in 2009, 180nutrition was born, and this blog followed in mid 2010.

In Brief….

– Why a blog? It’s an itch I’m attempting to scratch.

– This is not about trying to impress. Simply just trying to embrace.

– Who reads it? My mum for sure. Some friends and maybe a few strays that stumble upon it along the way. But most importantly, anyone who’s looking for that little extra from the mundane that’s usually offered to us all in some way.

– This blog is attached to myself and business partners website 180nutrition, and this is how I earn a living. It’s something I believe in whole heartily.

“Blogging is free. It doesn’t matter if anybody reads it. What matters is the humility that comes from writing it. What matter is the meta-cognition of thinking about what you’re going to say. How do you explain yourself to the few employees – or your cat – or whoever is going to look at it? How do you force yourself to describe – in three paragraphs – why you did something? How do you respond out loud? If you’re good at it [blogging], some people are going to read it. If you’re not good at it, and you stick with it, you’ll get good at it. This has become much bigger than, “are you Boing Boing or The Huffington Post?” This has become such a micro-publishing platform that you’re basically doing it for yourself… to force yourself to become a part of the conversation, even if it’s not that big. That posture change, changes an enormous amount.”

…and a couple of other thing. The House Rules –

We (the folks at 180 nutrition) run a blog which is run by a  hosting service called WordPress.com and would love for you to use it. Feel free to comment as much as you like, as every ones thoughts matter, whether it’s agree or disagree, critical or encourage. But be responsible. Being critical is fine, but rudeness and personal attacks are not. In particular, make sure that none of the prohibited items listed below appear in your writing or what you link to (things like spam, viruses, or hate content).

That’s the gist of it. Just go to these links if you want more comprehensive Terms of Service available under a Creative Commons Sharealike license, which means that you can borrow some or all of their wording for your own Terms of Service.  That’s exactly what we did. Also….

  • I recently learned that you have to provide disclosures whenever there could be hidden interests or unspoken biases related to recommendations.
  • Do I make money from this? I’d love to say I’m constantly getting taken out for dinner and thrown lots of perks, with every one clambering over themselves to advertise on this blog. This is not quite the case, but it’s always welcome as I’m easily pleased. I also love to travel, so feel free to shout me a couple of plane tickets.
  • So just in case,  assume the following….
